About Kites Campaigns

KitesCampaigns.org puts low-cost media tools into your hands to support your organizing.  Using cell phones, web and video tools, you will learn how to share your story and connect it to a local, state or national campaign.

  • Stories

Most of the action takes place inside the stories. These are written by users, and then read and commented on by other users. Stories can be found in three places. Most stories appear in the Recent list on the right-hand side of the homepage. By default, this shows the last 20 stories that have been posted; this can be reset as high as 50 stories using the field at the bottom of the list. People reading stories can recommend them (see below). If a diary receives enough recommendations, it will automatically be promoted to the Recommended list, which sits next to the Recent list. Recommended stories tend to attract a wider audience and more comments than most stories. The length of time that a story spends on the Recommended list depends on how many users recommend it; it can vary from a few minutes to more than one full day.

  • Comments

Inside stories and front page posts, users can post comments. Generally, these comments are in response to something in the story, or are responding to other comments.

  • Campaigns

In our Narrative Campaign framework, you will explore the Story of You, where you share your own story and then explore how to link your story to the story of others -- the Story of We. Finally, using the Story of Now, you launch your campaign and push for the positive social and political change needed.

Using a host of tools -- email, letter to editor, house parties, flip video, targeted communication to legislators -- we support your goals and objectives with a powerful media platform. Often we will work with you to secure low-cost media tools to put into the hands of your grassroots members.

  • Features

Our Features section is where Kites staff and contributors write articles and highlight content from our on-going projects. If you're interested in contributing to any of our Features sections, please contact us

  • Tags

Our site is a platform for users to come and share their stories as well as get connected with others. Connections are made through tagging. Tags identify what your story is about. To share your story, you must choose at least one tag. Take some time to think through good tags and browse stories to see the tags that others are using.

  • Spread the Word

Take some time to look over how you can share stories in other places on the web. In each individual story page, you can post the story to Twitter and Facebook or share it through an email. You can also grab the embed code on any of our media players to share them on your own site.
