The People’s Poet

This Can’t Be Life

Posted by Kites Team  ·  7 Jan 2011  ·  0 comments

A poem from Wallens Ridge State prison. Thanks to Carlon Turner of M.U.G.B.E.E. for bringing this poem to life for us.

Thousand Kites is seeking your poetic input to build our weekly radio broadcast.

How you can help:

1)    Read a “prison poem” for the show.  We invite prison poets, prisoners’ family members, teachers, and the general public to read a “prison poem.” Your reading will be posted here on the site and may be included in our national radio broadcast!

2)    Read a poem you wrote that you think would be a good fit for our program.

3)    Email us if you're interested in:

a. recording a “People’s Poet” workshop in which you teach a poetry workshop to our audience;

b. submitting pre-recorded content to the program

Call 877-518-0606 to record your work.  Don’t worry if you mess up we edit all the calls.  Please feel free to read the poem twice through and start your reading by stating “My name is ____ and I’m reading _____  by ______.”  Remember to find a quiet room to make your call from.
